Praying During Dark Times

Annette HubbellLittle Thoughts on Big Things, Spoonful Of Grace

Prayer… It is possibly the most positive Christian inspiration of all, except for the word of God itself. It is a way to let us talk to our maker, our father, our God. It is a way to atone and repent, as well as a direct way to ask for what our peace starved soul may need. Prayers are world-changers and they are especially helpful during dark times. As our world is ravaged by a pandemic and everything we’ve ever known has changed, we can find comfort in prayer, no matter how our prayers are worded, or where they are uttered.

Whether you are saying grace at family gatherings, or internally expressing mealtime prayers, your daily devotionals are a source of positive energy that can change you and your surroundings. Even scientific studies have shown that prayer has a huge impact on the human psyche and can light up specific areas of the brain, an effect that produces a sense of well-being, of being listened to, of not being alone.

All of this can help us navigate the dark days of this pandemic, days in which even visiting our loved ones can prove to be difficult and dangerous. Prayer allows us to thank our God for every blessing we are bestowed with, no matter how big or small, He is always listening and pleased at our words of gratitude. So, don’t forget, no matter how dire a situation may seem, no matter how hopeless the world may feel today, living a life of Christian devotion through prayer can change the world and the way we see it.Prayer can give us the strength we need to get through this while keeping our faith alive and opening a channel of communication with our Creator. Prayer, no matter how simple, can bring us hope.

Remember, God’s got this.
